What's Viagra? ; )

Of course, Dave, there's something real to that point too... Viagra's success is probably deeply connected with this same trend, and just more evidence that the senior set of today is much more on the go and active than that of just a generation or so ago.

Certainly, I agree... and hope I don't give the impression that don't. I use "seniors" only as a designation of convenience. But, as noted, I'm the last to think that demographics are enough to define the wants and needs of an entire group. The stats above remain statistically significant, but one could still take your point even further... all 50 year olds don't share the same interests as other 50 year olds... all 60 year old aren't the same... and so on.

You are absolutely right that this market is growing fast. But to lump everyone over 50 into one category - Seniors - is to make a HUGE mistake. As a 50 year old, I don't respond to the words "senior' or "retired". AARP can't get me to look at their mail. That is my 84 year old Dad's organization.

My blog got protests from 65 year olds when I referred to that group with the 80 year olds. Take my word for it, each generation (50s, 60s, 70s, 80s) has a unique set of wants and desires. Ignoring that will get you poor results.
